Daniel Levy forced to accept ‘huge loss’ amid Ryan Sessegnon contract update at Tottenham
John Wenham claims Daniel Levy has no choice but to accept a “huge loss” on Ryan Sessegnon at Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes there would be no point extending the 24-year-old’s deal in North London.
It comes after a report in Football London (20 May) revealed Sessegnon will leave Tottenham this summer.
The player has been informed that the club will not be taking up the option to extend his deal by a further year.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this is the right choice.
“This is a huge loss, but there isn’t much alternative,” Wenham said.
“If Spurs were to extend his contract by another year there is no guarantee he would stay fit.
“That would be another year of wasted wages.
“We’ve just never seen enough from Sessegnon, and I am happy for him to be moved on.”
Ange Postecoglou will be happy to let Ryan Sessegnon leave Tottenham
Spurs paid an initial fee of £25million to Fulham for Sessegnon (via BBC Sport, 8 August 2019).
When wages are factored in, that is a lot of money which has essentially been wasted.
There has been no return on the pitch, and there won’t be any return off of it either.

It is arguably the club’s least successful signing of the Premier League era.
Ange Postecoglou will have no issue letting Sessegnon go, and the Australian will hope it frees up some money in the budget.
