Daniel Levy backed to complete Ivan Toney signing at Tottenham after Brentford transfer news

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King believes that Spurs should do what it takes to sign Ivan Toney this summer, claiming the Brentford striker is “on a similar level to Ollie Watkins.”

According to The Sun (19 March), Arsenal have cooled their interest in Toney, with Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham all competing for the England international’s signature.

Toney is “open-minded” to staying in London and has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the Premier League.

In light of this recent news, King has revealed that he feels Spurs could be a good fit for Toney.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “That would be a good move for Tottenham.

“I think he would be very much suited to playing under Postecoglou and I have been impressed with him since his return to football.

“I have always liked him and I feel he would be able to improve at Tottenham, without a doubt.

“No matter the cost, Spurs should sign him. If you want a decent player then they will cost big money in today’s market, that is just the way it is.

“He is a top-level striker, on a similar level to Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.”

Will Tottenham sign Ivan Toney from Brentford to play under Ange Postecoglou next season?

Singing Toney would be the kind of move that could take Spurs to the next level.

One of the North London side’s weak points this season has been the lack of a real focal point up top who can perform consistently.

Richarlison has shown signs of improvement, but there is no guarantee that he is the long-term solution.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min has performed well in the number nine role this year, but the 31-year-old is not getting any younger, and Toney is a player who can guarantee goals for Postecoglou.

The 28-year-old is one of the Premier League’s most high-profile strikers and if Tottenham were to sign him, it would send a real message to the rest of the division.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will be worried about one 40 per cent Spurs star who was not at his best on international duty.
