Dane Scarlett tipped to start for Tottenham v Bournemouth amid Solanke latest

Dane Scarlett could start for Tottenham against Bournemouth on Sunday after a recent injury update on Dominic Solanke.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a disappointing defeat on Thursday (6 March) as they were beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 at the AFAS Stadion.

Postecoglou could be sacked by Daniel Levy if Spurs don’t turn things around in the second leg.

Luckily for the Australian, he has a chance to build some momentum ahead of the crunch clash in North London on Thursday (13 March) when his side welcome Bournemouth to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday (9 March).

However, things won’t be easy against the high-flying Cherries, in a match which could see Scarlett make his first Premier League start after an update on Solanke.

Scarlett ‘in line to start for Tottenham v Bournemouth’

Solanke is expected to miss Spurs’ clash against his former side.

Speaking ahead of the match on Sunday, Postecoglou said on the striker, “With Dom, obviously it’s a knee going into the backside so a bit sore but it’s a knock so hopefully he’ll be back pretty quickly.”

Therefore, after Mathys Tel was one of three Spurs players blasted for their performances in the Netherlands, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated that Scarlett could be given the nod up front.

“Why not?” King said.

Scarlett has made an impact when featuring for Tottenham this season

“Why won’t we see Scarlett start against Bournemouth? He might freshen things up. Postecoglou seems to take great pleasure in chopping and changing the team around.

“However, he certainly needs to start getting his players performing, both individually and as a team.

“We really haven’t seen it this season. Postecoglou has one last chance to win something this season with the Europa League.”

Scarlett deserves a chance at Tottenham

Things haven’t been going well for Spurs in recent weeks and Tel has failed to make an impact up front.

Therefore, there is no harm in Postecoglou giving Scarlett a chance to show what he is capable of in a Premier League fixture which ultimately doesn’t mean too much in the context of Spurs’ season.

The 20-year-old recently netted his first goal for the club and made an impact grabbing an assist off the bench in the 4-1 Premier League win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday (22 February).

As a result, maybe it is time for Postecoglou to see what Scarlett can do as the Spurs boss searches for something fresh up front.
