Damola Ajayi behind-the-scenes claim shared after Tottenham contract announced

Tottenham Under-21 star Damola Ajayi has committed his long-term future to the club.

Spurs confirmed via their official website on Thursday (2 January) that the 19-year-old has signed a new contract in North London which runs until 2028.

Ajayi was tipped to have a breakthrough season this year and has thus far started all 10 Premier League 2 matches for the Under-21s while also featuring in a first-team matchday squad.

Therefore, it is no surprise that he has been rewarded with a new contract, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has detailed what has been said about the forward behind the scenes.

“Ajayi is a good player,” Wenham said.

“He’s very versatile, he can play on the wing and as an out-and-out striker. This new contract demonstrates that the club have faith in him.

“When I spoke with Grétar Steinsson, Spurs’ former Technical Director, he told me he really liked Damola and saw a bright future for him. Therefore, hopefully, he can fulfil his potential.”

Spurs have several talented young players on their books, and supporters will be excited to see how these young players continue to develop.

While some have established themselves in the first-team quicker than others, such as Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear – who has been tipped for a potential January exit [via Football London, 31 December] – Ajayi’s contributions at Hotspur Way shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Despite still only being 19, Ajayi is already a key part of Spurs’ Under-21s, and after signing this new contract, first-team opportunities might not be far off.
