Cristian Romero ‘to stay at Tottenham’ despite what Diego Simeone wants – Exclusive
Tottenham may struggle to keep hold of Cristian Romero this summer.
The Argentina international has been an ever-present in North London since signing from Atalanta in 2021, and now could be set to depart.
There has been no shortage of exit links for the 27-year-old, especially with Ange Postecoglou’s sacking confirmed in N17.
With that being said, the Lilywhites have been urged to cut short any talks with the LaLiga giants over the future of the centre-back.

Tottenham must demand £60m+ for Romero
Alongside Micky van de Ven, the Lilywhites have quality in their backline, which could see them have a much better season if they stay fit next time around.
Competition | Appearances |
Premier League | 18 |
Europa League | 7 |
Even if that might be the case, there is still every chance that the former Juventus man wants to complete a move to Spain in the summer.
The prospect of playing for one of the better sides in Europe, under fellow countryman Simeone, could be too much for Romero to turn down.
Although that may be the case, former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen believes Spurs have to keep hold of the defender, even if a sizable bid comes in the upcoming window.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Allen said: “They won’t want to sell Romero now.
“He would fit in at Atletico Madrid, that’s for sure, under Simeone, he would absolutely love him. He gets sent off every year for these stupid challenges, but he’s a good player.
“What would they be looking for, for him? I can’t see them selling him for under £60m, not the way it is in the Premier League at the minute.
“With them in the Champions League, they can’t afford to sell their best players.“

Tottenham may refuse Atletico Madrid interest in Romero
It is going to be a long summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as fans await the new campaign after finishing 17th last time out.
As a result, a number of incoming and outgoing transfers are likely, with Romero potentially set to agree to a Lilywhites exit.
This could all depend on the incoming head coach, who is looking likely to be Thomas Frank, and how they want their squad to set out tactically.
Whoever it is who comes in, keeping the Argentine away from Atletico Madrid could prove to be a number one priority.
