Cristian Romero ‘to release statement’ after major Tottenham development
Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham appears to be more uncertain than ever.
Romero is one of Spurs’ most important players, with the centre-back named Player of the Match in the UEFA Europa League final.
However, the defender has been widely linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid, a move that will devastate Spurs supporters.
And now, Romero is expected to issue a statement after a recent development in North London.

Romero is expected to bid farewell to Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham confirmed their decision to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday (6 June) after a disappointing Premier League campaign.
Thomas Frank is expected to succeed the 59-year-old, although Romero might not stick around long enough to train under the Dane.
Indeed, the 27-year-old was thought to be extremely close to Postecoglou, and Daniel Levy’s decision to sack the Australian could lead to Romero demanding a Tottenham exit.

And with the pair’s close relationship in mind, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects Romero to release a statement about Postecoglou imminently.
“I’ve never seen a reaction like this from Tottenham players after a manager’s sacking,” Wenham said.
“We didn’t see this with Mauricio Pochettino, with José Mourinho, with Antonio Conte. Yes, maybe a few players made statements. However, almost every player in the squad has come out and spoken about their love for Postecoglou.
“The one notable absence is Romero, who’s obviously been away on international duty with Argentina. However, as a prominent user of social media, I’m sure he’ll release a statement on the matter soon.”

Tottenham could thrive without Romero
It seems odd to state that Tottenham would improve without their best defender, but the Lilywhites do not have a choice in the matter. It is either that they adapt to life without Romero or risk falling behind.
Furthermore, it is not as if they do not have several suitable replacements lined up for the Argentine.
Everton sensation Jarrad Branthwaite has been strongly linked to Tottenham. He is young, but he has the skillset to become one of the Premier League’s best.
The 22-year-old is as comfortable with the ball as he is without it, which would benefit Spurs when building out from the back.
The Lilywhites are also fond of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. He is strong in his positional play and is versatile in both the defensive and build-up phases of the game.
Therefore, while Tottenham would prefer to keep Romero, his departure will not be as daunting if they play their cards right this summer.
