Cristian Romero ‘to leave Tottenham’ after what was heard about controversy
Tottenham Hotspur supporters have not had a smooth recent relationship with Cristian Romero.
Romero has often failed to inspire when fit this season, and spent a large chunk of an abject campaign sidelined through injury.
The centre-half returned to fitness just in time for a call-up to the Argentina national squad last month, and has now started the last six Spurs games.
Romero, who turns 27 at the end of this month, sees his current contract expire in two years’ time, with no clear indication that he will stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond this summer.

Ian Darke defends Romero over Argentina fallout
Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have built the viewpoint of Romero that he has prioritised international commitments over his club career across his time in North London.
Some called for Spurs to block the last call-up he received, when he ended up playing two full games for the World Cup holders against Uruguay and Brazil in the latest round of 2026 qualifiers.
This would however have risked Romero’s relationship with the Tottenham hierarchy, as interest reportedly circles from Real Madrid among others.
TV commentator and football analysis expert Ian Darke, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has leapt to the defence of Romero for supposedly putting Argentina first.
“Tottenham fans have got on Romero’s back about the Argentina stuff in the past. Well, guess what? They’re the World Cup winners. He’s entitled to hold Argentina quite close to his heart,” he said.
“If you ask anybody who has the honour of playing for a World Cup-winning Argentina team, they won’t want to miss a squad. That’s the reality of it.
“I’ve heard Spurs fans on call-ins saying they’re towards the end of the line with him and wouldn’t be surprised if he was to leave this summer.”

Tottenham risk losing big-hitters without European football
Tottenham face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday (13 April), but realistically, the eyes of all of a Spurs persuasion are on Thursday (17 April) at Eintracht Frankfurt.
With the Europa League quarter-final second leg finely poised at an aggregate scoreline of 1-1 in Germany, Spurs know the ramifications of elimination – and also on the future of Ange Postecoglou.

It’s either the Champions League or nothing at all with regards to next season’s European qualification, and if it is to be the latter, there are certainly a few viable moves for many established Spurs players.
That’s just how big Thursday is.
