Cristian Romero ‘to leave Tottenham’ after Diego Simeone transfer talks
Cristian Romero is expected to join Atletico Madrid from Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
It has been a disappointing season for Romero, who has missed much of the campaign through injury, which led to the defender aiming a subtle dig at the Tottenham medical staff.
Therefore, with two years left on his deal this summer, now seems like the perfect time for Romero and Spurs to part ways, and that is exactly what is expected to happen.

Romero ‘to join Atletico Madrid from Tottenham’
Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Romero and could submit a big-money offer to Tottenham this summer.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri (31 March), Romero recently spoke to Diego Simeone on the phone and is excited about the prospect of joining the Spanish club.
Tottenham | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Cristian Romero | 117 | 7 | 1 |
Simeone has been criticised for this. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – couldn’t think of a better move for Romero, and thinks now is the perfect time for Daniel Levy to sanction the 26-year-old’s exit.
“I couldn’t think of a club that Romero would be better suited to,” Wenham said.
“From Spurs’ point of view, I think it is time for a clean break. For whatever reason, Romero’s time at Tottenham hasn’t quite worked out as people would have wanted it to, for multiple reasons.
“Although he is one of our few world-class players, I think this summer is the right time to move on from him. However, the issue is always going to be that Tottenham paid £40million for Romero. Saying that, Atletico Madrid do have the money, as we saw when they signed Julián Alvarez.
“This will need to be a decent deal for Tottenham. However, I do expect Romero to leave permanently.”

Levy will want good money for Romero at Tottenham
Even if this summer is the best time for Romero to be sold, Spurs chairman Levy will only sanction a sale if the terms are favourable.
A bid of £75million could be accepted by Tottenham. However, it remains to be seen what the final price will be on this potential transfer.
