Bryan Gil ‘to leave Tottenham for free’ after crushing injury development

Tottenham look set to lose out financially after Bryan Gil suffered a cruel injury setback.

Spurs paid £21.6million to Sevilla for Gil in July 2021, with Erik Lamela moving to the La Liga side as part of the transfer agreement.

However, the winger has never settled in North London, thrice being sent on loan back to Spain.

Gil’s most recent move saw him link up with Girona at the beginning of the season, and at one point, it looked as though Gil could make his stay with Girona permanent.

However, after a recent injury update, it appears as though that is no longer the case, and Spurs will once again be stuck with a player who they cannot sell.

Gil suffers major injury setback at Girona

Gil will miss the rest of the season after the Spurs forward was forced to undergo surgery.

Following the 24-year-old’s surgery, Cristian Romero sent a heartfelt message to Gil, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has detailed what he expects will happen next.

“Gil is now going to leave the club for free,” Wenham said.

Gil has never made an impact for Tottenham

“He’s not going to be able to move on during the upcoming summer transfer window, because he is injured. Then, in January, he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract and leave the club on a free transfer.

“We’re going to be stuck with him for the next year, and he probably won’t even be registered for the Premier League next season. Therefore, this is just a really bad set of events.”

Tottenham need to find a solution for Gil

After losing big money on Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, this is yet another transfer blow for Tottenham.

Gil will likely spend the next few months on the sidelines, which could make agreeing a transfer exit in the summer window difficult. However, there could be one last chance for Spurs to recoup some money on the player next January.

While Gil would be able to agree a pre-contract and leave for free the following summer, if he isn’t in Spurs’ plans next season, he could agree to leave for a fee midway through the campaign.
