Bryan Gil has no Tottenham future after failure to take chance
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Bryan Gil is not Premier League-ready and doesn’t have a future at Tottenham after failing to take the opportunities he has been given, says Paul Robinson.
The Spanish international started twice against Aston Villa and Manchester City amid an extensive injury crisis but was withdrawn at half-time of the latter after a performance that saw him likened to a child by The Athletic’s Adam Crafton (3 December), and Ange Postecoglou subsequently dropped him to the bench where he has stayed.
Robinson, a pundit for BBC Sport, also feels the 22-year-old winger is “small” and “lightweight” so doesn’t expect him to last at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Robinson exclusively told Tottenham News: “For me, what I’ve seen thus-far, no he doesn’t have a future.
“He doesn’t look Premier League-ready and he’s not had any impact when he’s come on in games.
“Physically he looks small and lightweight in the positions that he’s been asked to play.
“It’s a tough one because the manager has given him an opportunity, opportunities to start and come off the bench, and he hasn’t taken them.
“For me he doesn’t look like a top level Premier League player.”

Gil arrived three summers ago in a deal that cost £21.6million and also saw Erik Lamela move in the opposite direction to Sevilla [Sky Sports].
But he has made only 37 appearances for Tottenham in the time since as he has been sent out on loan for part of each of the past two seasons, to Valencia and former club Sevilla respectively.
A return of just two assists and no goals in that time has also disappointed, and if he can’t stake a claim at a time when the Spurs squad is down to the bare bones then he likely won’t get a better chance.
In other Tottenham News, “there’s a reason” why one Spurs exile left the club on loan so the club aren’t expected to want him back in January.
