Brighton loan mooted for Tottenham attacker Bryan Gil amid speculation – ‘phenomenal’

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes a loan move in the Premier League would be “phenomenal” for Bryan Gil, suggesting Tottenham must make that a “number one priority” for the winger.

Ange Postecoglou has hardly utilised Gil, with the 22-year-old featuring just nine times in the Premier League under the Australian this season.

As a result, the Spaniard has been linked with a move away from North London in January.

According to Corriere Dello Sport (25 January), both Brentford and Brighton are interested in signing Gil on loan this month.

In light of this news, Wenham has revealed his ideal plan for the future of the Spurs outcast.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “If there’s an option to loan him out to a Premier League club to see what he can do in English football, then that’d be my number one priority for Gil.

“If he could go somewhere where he will be offered a run of games, rather than just playing seven minutes and then not being seen again for three months, that would be ideal. If he could get 10 to 15 games under his belt at a club like Brighton, then that would be phenomenal for his development.

“Even if he didn’t succeed, at least we’d know, because at the moment we don’t.

“If there’s a permanent offer from a club overseas, then that could also work, but loaning him back to Spain or loaning him anywhere other than English football would be pointless.

“We know what he can do in Spain, he went on loan to Sevilla last season and won the UEFA Europa League.

“Overall, I think it would be beneficial to move him on as I just don’t see him getting much game time this season, especially since signing Timo Werner and with Manor Solomon also set to return soon.”

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must continue to wait as two Spurs stars look set to spend a longer period away from the club.
