Brennan Johnson to be axed for Tottenham v Newcastle as replacement named
Brennan Johnson is expected to be dropped when Tottenham take on Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.
Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for his side to get back to winning ways at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 4 January. However, things will no doubt be difficult as the Spurs boss shared more bad injury news on Friday [via Football London, 3 January].
Ahead of the clash, an update has emerged on Thomas Tuchel [via Sami Mokbel, 3 January], which might provide some players a bit of increased motivation.
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects that James Maddison will be handed the opportunity to impress the new England manager.
“We’re looking at Fraser Forster in goal again,” Wenham said.
“Seems as though we will also need to go with the same backline, with Djed Spence coming in for the injured Destiny Udogie.
“In terms of a midfield three, Rodrigo Bentancur isn’t available. Therefore, I think we could see Maddison start with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma. As a result, that would then see Dejan Kulusevski move to the right to play in a front three with Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min.
“However, these players are all exhausted as they’ve been unable to have a rest for weeks due to all the injuries in the squad.”
James Maddison to start for Tottenham against Newcastle?
Maddison upset a few Spurs supporters with his actions on social media recently, with calls for the midfielder to be banned. However, he will be available, and it seems as though Postecoglou might start him.
The Australian was heavily criticised and told to leave the club after dropping Maddison for the 2-2 Premier League draw against Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (29 December).

Therefore, if the Englishman does start, he will need to prove to Postecoglou as well as Tuchel why he deserves to be playing regularly, and why fans are therefore so upset when he is on the bench.
In other Tottenham news, Jamie Carragher has sent Postecoglou a message.
