‘Big’ developments could allow Tottenham Under-18s to lift the FA Youth Cup – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham Under-18s have a realistic chance of lifting the FA Youth Cup this year.

Tottenham’s Under-18s are flying high this season, sitting second in the Under-18 Premier League South.

In addition, they advanced to the fifth round of the competition with a 3-1 win away at Burton Albion Under-18s on Tuesday 16 January.

They will now take on Bournemouth Under-18s at home in the fifth round, and amid some shock results elsewhere in the competition, Wenham believes there is a big chance of the North London side going all the way this year.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Burton Albion had beaten Aston Villa Under-18s in the round before, who are very good at youth level, so that was a big win for Tottenham.

“They will now play Bournemouth at home in round five with the venue still to be confirmed, and I am hoping that it will be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“There were some big results elsewhere. Manchester United Under-18s, who are top of the Under-18 Premier League North, were dumped out by Swindon Town Under-18s which was a massive shock.

“Arsenal Under-18s were battered 7-1 by Liverpool Under-18s, which means that suddenly, it is opening up very nicely for Tottenham with some of these big teams that have gone out of the competition.

“Hopefully going forward Spurs can start to think about winning the FA Youth Cup for the first time in a long time, and with the players they’ve got in the academy, they can absolutely do it this year.”

In other Tottenham news, one of the Under-18 stars has proven he is too good for that level and is ready to make the step up.
