Ben Godfrey to Tottenham transfer rated after Fabrizio Romano update on Thursday
Ange Postecoglou is in desperate need of defenders as Ben Godfrey is linked with a move to Tottenham.
Postecoglou has seen yet another first-team defender ruled out after Paul O Keefe provided an update on Destiny Udogie’s hamstring injury via his personal X account on Wednesday (1 January)
Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs were to make a move for a defender in January, and as reported via The Sun (24 December, page 48) the North London club have approached Atalanta to sign ex-Everton ace Godfrey.
According to Fabrizio Romano (2 January), Godfrey will be allowed to leave the Italian club this month.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims the Englishman is not good enough.
“This is a player that Sean Dyche decided to move on,” Wenham said.
“He wasn’t good enough for Everton and it seems as though he isn’t good enough for Atalanta. If people aren’t good enough for Everton, we shouldn’t be queuing up to sign them.
“Therefore, I would say no to that transfer.”
Tottenham to sign Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey?
If Spurs were to go ahead and sign Godfrey, it would be a slap in the face to supporters and would justify any further protest and anger toward Daniel Levy and ENIC.
Godfrey is a player who was shipped out of Everton and has failed to make an impact in Italy. Therefore, there is no reason why Spurs should be targeting the 26-year-old.
Postecoglou needs quality reinforcement this month, not players who are likely available on the cheap.

Supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pay some of the highest ticket prices in Europe, and the signings made should reflect that fact.
