Atletico Madrid ‘to make big-money offer for Romero’ amid Tottenham transfer news
Cristian Romero’s long-term future appears to lie away from Tottenham after recent transfer news.
Romero will have two years left on his contract at the end of the season.
Therefore, Spurs need the defender to either extend his stay, which could see the North London club offer Romero £200,000-a-week, or a sale might be necessary.
And after Romero’s recent subtle dig at Tottenham, and with transfer news beginning to emerge, it looks as though a sale is the more likely outcome.
Romero is ready to quit Tottenham
Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Romero this summer.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri (31 March), Romero recently spoke to Diego Simeone on the phone and is excited about the prospect of joining Atletico Madrid.
It is thought that Tottenham would accept £75million for the World Cup winner, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Atletico will have any problem paying that kind of money.
“I couldn’t think of a more perfect player for a perfect club,” Wenham said.

“Atletico Madrid is a huge step up from Tottenham. This is a team which won the league not long ago and regularly competes in the UEFA Champions League. I couldn’t think of a better fit than Romero and Atletico Madrid.
“They’ve got money too. They were able to spend big on Julián Alvarez, and I don’t see them having any issues making a big-money offer to get Romero. Therefore, I can absolutely see this transfer happening.”
Tottenham would be wise to cash in on Romero
It appears as though Romero is keen to leave Tottenham. Therefore, it doesn’t make any sense for the club to try and keep hold of him beyond this summer.
Unless the 26-year-old agrees to sign a new contract, now is the time for Tottenham to cut ties with Romero to ensure they get maximum value for the player.
