Archie Gray ‘to come back stronger’ after what has happened at Tottenham

Archie Gray has been one of the very few positives to have emerged from Tottenham this season.

It certainly looks as though it is going to be a season to forget for Tottenham in the Premier League, though the performances of Gray have certainly subdued some of the frustration.

Despite his age, Gray has been one of the best performers for Spurs this season, though he has had to mould himself into a centre-back given the injury troubles they have faced.

Even still, the teenager has excelled, and those experiences will only see him grow stronger.

Tottenham must manage Gray carefully

With several first-teamers coming back from injury, Gray has found himself on the bench, though Paul Robinson thinks that he will come back as a stronger player as a result of the challenges he has faced this season.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s played 41 games this season. And I don’t think that the plan for Archie Gray was to play him as much or give him as much game time as he’s had this season. It’s been an incredible first season for him.

“And I think, you know, he will fit into that midfield. We’ve seen how he adapts to the Premier League, how he’s played extremely well at centre-half. You know, with Bentancur, Bissouma, and Sarr, you’d argue that he’s as good, if not better, than a couple of those.

Gray’s ability on the ball is his biggest asset

“I think he’s been rotated in and out of the side simply because of the amount of football that he’s played.

“You forget how young he is and the demands that the Premier League puts on you. To play centre-half week in and week out has been an incredible achievement for him. And I think, going into next season, even if he doesn’t play another game between now and next season, it’s been an incredible season for him.”

Tottenham must make the most of Gray’s strengths

Gray is at his best when he can get on the ball and contribute going forward for Tottenham, which, this season, hasn’t really been possible.

However, with players coming back and a whole new campaign ahead of them, they simply need to utilise him in midfield to get the best out of him.

With 10 games remaining, the majority of that period may be used as recovery time for the youngster, though when he is called upon, it needs to be in his natural position.
