Ange Postecoglou slammed by Tottenham insider amid James Maddison ‘concern’

John Wenham has been left frustrated by Ange Postecoglou’s recent treatment of James Maddison.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes that while the England international has experienced a dip in form, he should still be kept on the pitch “as much as possible.”

In recent weeks Postecoglou has been bringing Maddison off earlier than usual in matches, with the midfielder being substituted in the 70th minute of the 1-1 draw at West Ham (2 April) as well as the 68th minute of the 2-1 win over Luton Town (30 March).

Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is not a fan of this in-game management.

“He has not been at the same level recently which is a concern,” Wenham said.

“His form isn’t what it was, and he will be the first to admit that. However, I still find it slightly frustrating and a bit surprising that Postecoglou has been bringing him off early in recent games.

“He is still one of the best players at the club and he can make things happen, so in my opinion it would be wise to keep him on the pitch as much as possible.”

James Maddison must rediscover his form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Maddison has just four goal contributions in his last 14 appearances for Tottenham.

After his impressive early-season form, it has now been several months since Spurs’ supporters have seen the 27-year-old at his scintillating best.

With hopes of a top-four finish slowly slipping away from Spurs’ reach, now would be a better time than ever for Maddison to get back to his best, especially with a North London to come against Arsenal on Sunday (28 April).

In other Tottenham news, Wilfred Ndidi could be brought in to replace one midfielder who could quit the club this summer.
