‘Ange Postecoglou on thin ice’ with Tottenham prophecy now close
Ange Postecoglou is on “thin ice” at Tottenham and must deliver on his second-season “prophecy”, Ian Darke has said.
The TV commentator insists Spurs can still turn their season around in cup competitions, but has admitted Postecoglou is not helping himself with his public belief he will deliver a trophy this year.
Tottenham are languishing in 15th in the Premier League table and suffered a 12th defeat in 22 games against Everton on Sunday (19 January).
“Maybe his ‘second season’ prophecy could still come true. They’re in a good position in the League Cup and they’re still in the FA Cup,” Darke exclusively told Tottenham News.
“What I will say is that I think he’s on increasingly thin ice, because it’s himself saying it – not the critics – that they should simply not be losing the number of games they are when they’re Tottenham Hotspur.
“The fans would agree with that, he needs a couple of results quite soon, as I thought the Everton game was a ‘must-not-lose’, and they lost.”
Tottenham still fighting on four fronts
While Tottenham attempt to claw a nine-point gap even just to the top half of the Premier League table, the Lilywhites do remain in all cup competitions.
Postecoglou’s side has done half the job against Liverpool in their Carabao Cup semi-final tie but must avoid defeat at Anfield next month to book their place at Wembley for the final of the last trophy they lifted 17 years ago.

The FA Cup fourth round pits Spurs at Villa Park against a glittering Aston Villa side (9 February).
February is likely to be a month which defines the campaign one way or the other, with Postecoglou also likely to steer the club into the knockout stage of the Europa League.
