Andoni Iraola ‘rejects Tottenham job’ after money thrown at him – Exclusive

Tottenham have embarrassed themselves this season in the Premier League, and Andoni Iraola has only managed to rub that in further.

With Ange Postecoglou all but set for the sack in North London, regardless of any Europa League success, the Spaniard was targeted.

Bournemouth wanted £10million for Iraola to move elsewhere, which wasn’t a problem for Tottenham or Daniel Levy in this market.

Iraola to sign contract after Tottenham news

Instead of taking the Tottenham job, though, Iraola is instead set to commit his future to the Cherries.

Dan Plumley, a football finance expert, has insisted that it shows that Spurs cannot just throw money at managers, with no guarantee they would want their top job after this season.

“You look at what motivates a manager and if he doesn’t want to go to Tottenham, look at what Bournemouth are doing,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He’s developing a good squad of players, they’ve just opened a new training ground, and the infrastructure looks really impressive, they’re having a good season and pushing for Europe, which is phenomenal given where they’ve been.

So, they’re on an upward curve, and managers may want to stick around in that environment.

The Tottenham job, despite all the positives of the club, stadium, the potential and some of the players they’ve got, it might not be the most attractive managerial job at the moment, especially if you have a good thing going elsewhere.

There is no guarantee that throwing money at a manager gets you the manager that you want; there are other factors at play.”

Champions League changes everything

With a 3-1 win in the opening leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, Tottenham do have one foot in the final already.

Manchester United look to be in the same boat, so Postecoglou and Spurs would fancy their chances if they get to that Bilbao final, which would secure Champions League football.

Without that, Spurs are finishing just above the relegation zone with no European football, and that would be catastrophic, as shown in the recent accounts.

Even if Iraola doesn’t accept the job, there is a list of some huge names ready to take over.
