Alfie Whiteman to leave Tottenham after official Spurs announcement on Tuesday
John Wenham claims Alfie Whiteman is “almost certain” to leave Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that Whiteman could now struggle to find a place in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
It comes after Tottenham announced via their official website on Tuesday (28 May) that Brandon Austin has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2029.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this spells the end of Whiteman’s time with Spurs.
“Whiteman is now essentially the fourth-choice goalkeeper,” Wenham said.
“With Austin having also been preferred on the bench toward the end of the season, I think it is almost certain that Whiteman will move on this summer.
“It has been made abundantly clear that Austin is the third choice, and even if Fraser Forster was to move on, Whiteman would still struggle to get into the squad.
“So that’s one change we will likely see this summer.”
Alfie Whiteman likely to be sold by Tottenham after Brandon Austin announcement
Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster are the obvious top-two goalkeepers at Tottenham.
That has left Austin and Whiteman to battle out for the role of third-choice, a battle which Austin looks to have won.
With so many options in front of him, it makes little sense for Whiteman to stick around at the club.
In other Tottenham news, Micky van de Ven is wanted in a “big-money” deal to exit the club.
