Added spice as £50m+ now on line at Tottenham – Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Tottenham..
Dan Plumley has insisted that there is a “big risk” for Tottenham and any Premier League club potentially needing the fifth Champions League spot.
As part of a revamped Champions League, the two countries that perform best in Europe in terms of the co-efficient will earn an extra spot, with England currently behind Germany and Italy [Yahoo].
The finance expert admitted that Spurs, who currently sit fourth but could drop to fifth on Wednesday 27 December, will be rooting for all English clubs with £50million on the line.

“Big risk at the minute,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.
“There is also a long way to go and it is ironic in this regard that actually, what you need is all the clubs in Europe to help you out.
“The way that UEFA are working it is not just the Champions League, but looking at the Europa League and the Conference League as well so the more teams you have in the mix across all three tournaments can make a difference.

“I guess if you’re Spurs at the minute or whoever the club is sat in fifth when the time comes, you’ll be rooting for all the English clubs in Europe to progress at the expense of clubs in Italy, Germany and Spain as you are competing against each other.
“It gives added spice to the fixtures we’ve got coming up in 2024 in those competitions because it may mean that generates a fairly lucrative fifth Champions League spot and we know for an English club, that’s going to be at least £50million.
“I think Spurs will be rooting for not just clubs in the Champions League, but clubs in the Europa League and Conference League as well so the English coefficient gets boosted and you can maybe get them spots.”
