‘Tottenham make Eric Dier mistake’ as contract update emerges at Bayern Munich
Eric Dier left Tottenham in January 2024 to join Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal.
The 31-year-old took to life in the Bundesliga like a duck to water, making 20 appearances as the Bavarians missed out on the title.
It now looks as if the former England international and Harry Kane are going to get their hands on some silverware as Bayern sits top of the league by six points.
With that being said, a contract development has emerged in Germany which could represent a mistake at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham make mistake with Dier
It is fair to say that the ex-Sporting CP man played a key role in Spurs’ best spell, arguably in their Premier League history.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, the Englishman was superb and linked up superbly with the likes of Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele and Dele Alli.
Regardless of these successes, Ange Postecoglou wasn’t one for sentiment when he came in and opted against making the most of Dier’s qualities.
This saw him make just four appearances under the Australian before making a winter move away from North London to the Bundesliga giants.
Unfortunately for Postecoglou, this decision has gone against him after Spurs dealt with horrendous injury issues in the centre-back role.
While this was going on, the 31-year-old was flourishing in Germany and he now looks set to be rewarded with a new contract.
Stat (Bundesliga 24/25) | Eric Dier |
Successful passes | 719 |
Touches | 863 |
Duels won | 48 |
Aerial duels won | 31 |
Florian Plettenberg reported on 28 March that “concrete talks” have kicked off over a new one-year contract extension at the Allianz.
Both sides are open to reaching an agreement, and this is just further evidence of the error that the Lilywhites last year.
Dier makes Postecoglou look silly with Bayern Munich form
Considering that this season, both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero suffered long-term issues this season, having Dier would have been handy.
What the Englishman lacked in pace, he made up for with physicality and an ability to play well with the ball at his feet.
Now that he is signing a new contract at Bayern, it is proof of the sort of level he can play at, especially under Vincent Kompany, who is playing a proper brand of football.
It is clear that Postecoglou didn’t see him as part of his plans, but that may come across as an oversight after being forced to utilise Archie Gray in that position.
