Guglielmo Vicario set for shock Tottenham exit as deal close

Tottenham and their fans have been put through it both on and off the pitch this season.

Since the start of the campaign, there have been rumours flying around about where the future of Ange Postecoglou lies and performances over the past few months certainly won’t have helped matters much in that regard.

In addition to their poor form, they’ve also suffered a rather large number of injuries to their defensive line, which will have no doubt hindered their progress.

With the January transfer window now open, rumours have already started to emerge about some new faces making their way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it seems that one deal may have already been sanctioned.

That player being Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky [Fabrizio Romano, 4 January]. The 21-year-old is set to be Postecoglou’s first addition of the winter window and, while a new face is likely more than welcome, it could spell the end of Guglielmo Vicario’s stint in London.

Why could this be the end for Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham

Since the Italian’s arrival in England, there have been question marks about whether he was the correct long-term successor for Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman made the starting spot at Spurs his own over many years and made many fond memories during his time with Spurs.

The addition of Kinsky could start to pave the way for a new number one to be brought in at some point due to the ability the Slavia Prague keeper has.

He has played 29 games across all competitions thus far for the Czechia side and has notched a total of 14 clean sheets and has only conceded 18 goals.

He’s also helped lead Slavia Prague to the top of the Czech First League and has helped generate a seven-point gap between themselves and second-placed Viktoria Plzen.

Kinsky cannot be considered one for the future but rather one for the here and now. Vicario has not done enough to truly win over supporters and the experiment cannot continue if the new arrival shines.

Only time will tell if Daniel Levy chooses to sanction the exit of the Argentinian, but with the addition of Kinsky, it certainly feels like things are going that way.
