Antonín Kinský ‘in serious trouble at Tottenham’ after recent injury update

Antonín Kinský has made an impressive start to life at Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s side signed the goalkeeper from Slavia Prague in a deal worth around £12.5million [via BBC Sport, 5 January], with Daniel Levy pulling out all the stops to get a deal across the line.

Since arriving in North London, Kinský has played six times for Spurs and kept three clean sheets and largely impressed with his displays, a few “nervy” moments aside.

However, the young shot-stopper is about to face his greatest test since arriving at Tottenham – a battle for the number one spot under Postecoglou.

Guglielmo Vicario has been sidelined since November and after he was mooted to be in line for a surprise return in the 2-0 Premier League win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February), it looks as though the Italian is now close to making his comeback.

When asked for an update on when some of Spurs’ injured stars might return, reliable insider Paul O Keefe said via X (4 February), “Vic is very close”.

Guglielmo Vicario to replace Antonín Kinský at Tottenham?

Before getting injured, Vicario was the firm number-one choice between the sticks for Postecoglou. However, after the way Kinský has played, things might have changed.

Tottenham are understood to have held talks with Vicario, with the Italian not thought to be particularly happy at the moment as he gets set for a fight to regain his place.

However, as well as Kinský has done, he is still young, and Vicario’s personality and influence behind the scenes could see him walk straight back into the team.

It is difficult at this moment to know what Postecoglou is thinking. However, if Vicario does return to the starting lineup when he is available again, Kinský could be in serious trouble.

Regaining his place might prove difficult, and as a goalkeeper, it is not always easy to get minutes as a number two.

Therefore, Kinský is going to need to ensure that he works extra hard in training over the coming weeks so that he doesn’t lose his place in the pecking order and undo all of his hard work so far at Tottenham.
