Ange Postecoglou will surely be at risk of facing the sack if Tottenham fail to make the Carabao Cup final when they face Liverpool on Thursday night.

Spurs are enduring a horrid season, and with a 1-0 lead over Liverpool, the Carabao Cup is one of their only real remaining chances of success this campaign.

Postecoglou has been unable to shake off the ever-growing pressure on him in North London, and should Liverpool be able to overturn the one-goal deficit, that pressure will only intensify with Daniel Levy then surely forced into a decision.

It could very much be a make-or-break evening for Postecoglou, with Newcastle United keen to learn who their Wembley opponents will be.

Given their wretched position in the Premier League, Postecoglou needs to find some form of success through the three cup competitions they find themselves in, whether that be the FA Cup, Europa League or Carabao Cup.

When taking into account the level of quality in the Europa League, that route seems unlikely while the FA Cup is wide open for several teams.

With Newcastle the pending opponents at Wembley, Tottenham's best chance of silverware will be the Carabao and if they fail to make the final, it's hard to see any way back for Postecoglou.

Several games have been highlighted as the "final straw" for the Australian, but given the importance of this clash, the occasion cannot get much bigger.

Postecoglou cannot be afforded much more time at Spurs if they fail to proceed and Levy will have to accept defeat in his attempts to back the manager.
