Matthew Craig joins list of players set to leave Tottenham within weeks

Matthew Craig is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, following the expiration of his contract.

During the 2025-26 campaign, the 23-year-old midfielder made 10 appearances for Spurs in Premier League 2, racking up 875 minutes.

From top to bottom, the Lilywhites need a complete reset this summer, with Craig among a list of players seen as surplus to requirements.

Graduating from the academy at Hotspur Way, the youngster would make his first appearance on the final day of the 2022-23 season, as Spurs beat Leeds at Elland Road.

Now, after a string of unsuccessful loan spells, Craig appears to be moving on to pastures new this summer.

Who else is leaving Tottenham as Matthew Craig gears up for departure?

As per Lilywhite Rose on Instagram, Craig is set to leave the club following the conclusion of his contract at the end of June.

With Tottenham securing their Premier League survival at the end of the season, a rebuild is in order under Roberto De Zerbi.

As a result, those from the academy will have been assessed by the Italian, with young defender Tyler Tingey previously training with the first team.

Spurs would make use of their younger players this term, though just 99 minutes were handed to academy graduates in Callum Olusesi, James Rowswell, Luca Williams-Barnett and Jun'ai Byfield.

Now, multiple prospects could be set to follow Craig out the door, with Leo Black leaving alongside Tyrell Ashcroft.

With best wishes going to those leaving the club, De Zerbi may be looking to make use of those returning to Hotspur Way this summer.

Which of the returnees could make a difference for Roberto De Zerbi?

For those out on loan, it has been a much more prosperous season than the one endured in North London.

In particular, Luka Vuskovic, Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore have all impressed with Hamburg, Oxford and Rangers.

Alongside these names, Alfie Devine, Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, Min-heyok Yang and Dane Scarlett have all spent time elsewhere.

Looking ahead to next term, though, Vuskovic and Lankshear will be the ones to watch for a first-team breakthrough.

Lankshear scored 11 Championship goals for an Oxford United side battling relegation for the entire campaign, in a team where clear-cut chances were hard to come by.

Feeding off limited service, the forward still impressed and now looks set either to be integrated into De Zerbi’s first-team plans or sent back to the Championship to gain further experience.

Vuskovic returns from Hamburg having become a talismanic figure for the Red Shorts, leading their push to secure Bundesliga survival.

Current reports suggest a possible return to the Volksparkstadion, but if he stays in north London he will be pushing hard for a starting spot almost immediately.

Tottenham boast a strong young core – one De Zerbi will be keen to assess and strengthen as the first phase of his rebuild gets underway.
