Will Lankshear must be taken on pre-season tour as ‘impressive’ Tottenham U21s footage emerges

Ange Postecoglou will already be thinking ahead to the club’s pre-season tour and Tottenham Under-21s sensation Will Lankshear must be involved this summer.

The club announced that Postecoglou and his squad will be heading to Japan in July to face one of Postecoglou’s former rivals at Yokohama F.Marinos, Vissel Kobe, just a few weeks after the 2023/24 campaign ends.

This will give the Australian the perfect opportunity to work out what changes need to be made to his squad ahead of next season, and also see which youngsters he can bring through.

Although it is already clear that 19-year-old striker Lankshear is ready to be promoted to the first-team set-up, the latest reminder will do his chances no harm this summer.

Lankshear fired home an “impressive” first-time strike, as per Tottenham Hotspur official X account, as the U21s defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League 2 play-off semi-final on Sunday 19 May

Deivid Washington equalised with just 15 minutes remaining before Nile John stole the victory four minutes into added time, securing the win and making Lankshear’s opener count.

Ange Postecoglou to reward Will Lankshear with Tottenham debut

Postecoglou will be well aware of the young striker’s talents, as everyone at the club is as he continues his red-hot form with Spurs’ U21s.

His effort against Chelsea marked the forward’s 23rd goal in all competitions this season, and still has time to net more as his side progressed to the final of the Premier League 2 play-offs.

Of course, with the likes of Dane Scarlett, Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley at the club, it makes Postecoglou’s decision much harder about which youngsters should be promoted to senior football.

However, the pre-season tour will give him the perfect opportunity to see which of them are ready for the step-up, and will also provide the young players with the platform to thrive under his leadership.

Just Lankshear’s pure number of goals this season should be enough to sell the idea of taking the striker to Japan with the senior team and should feel a little hard done by if he is not included.

The manager may think that a loan spell is needed before a move into the first team. However, Spurs could be on the lookout for a natural striker in the transfer market this summer and could see their problems solved if Lankshear is given an opportunity.
