View: Tottenham ace Alfie Devine continues to make an impression amid England development

After being called up by the England Under-20s squad for the ongoing international break, Tottenham ace Alfie Devine was spotted training with the country’s senior side.

It has been a fantastic couple of weeks for the youngster. Having secured a loan move to League One side Port Vale in search of some regular first-team minutes to help aid his development, the 19-year-old made a superb impact during just his second appearance for the club.

With the scoreline reading 1-0 to the visiting Oxford United, Devine was brought off the bench with 22 minutes to play and won the game for his team. First, he whipped in a delightful free-kick that was headed home by Alex Lacovitti in the 74th minute to level proceedings, before scoring a 99th-minute penalty to win the game.

Stepping up to take a spot-kick in the final minutes with the score level during just your second League One appearance is something that more experienced players might not even have the nerve to do. Devine showed maturity beyond his years and this has clearly been noticed, as he was included in first-team training with England.

It was announced on 1 September that he was set to link up with the Under-20s, however, on Tuesday 5 September he was spotted brushing shoulders with the likes of Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka.

Journalist Henry Winter posted a video via his Twitter page (5 September) of the training session taking place at St Georges Park, in which Spurs’ starboy could be seen.

Being exposed to this level at such a young age will only do Devine’s confidence and development the world of good, and if the midfielder is able to continue on his current trajectory, these sightings will soon become a regular occurrence in the not-too-distant future.

In other Tottenham news, the club have two other academy prospects on their hands who could soon be banging on Ange Postecoglou’s door.
