Under-21s starlet Jude Soonsup-Bell surely next in line for Ange Postecoglou promotion at Tottenham after what he did on Monday

On the back of Jamie Donley’s competitive debut for the Tottenham first team, Jude Soonsup-Bell will be the next Under-21s star banging down Ange Postecoglou’s door.

Donley has been on fire for Spurs’ Under-21s this season and was recently awarded for his sensational form with both his home and away first-team debuts for the club.

Having been included in a couple of Ange Postecoglou’s matchday squads prior, the 18-year-old came off the bench to make his first senior Tottenham appearance during the 3-3 draw with Manchester City on 3 December.

A week later to the day he made his home debut in the 4-1 win against Newcastle United and was serenaded by a chorus of ‘he’s one of our own’ throughout the closing stages of the match.

Donley has four goals and eight assists in eight Premier League two appearances so far this season and is a big reason why the north London outfit sit top of the division with a four-point lead and a game in hand.

His Under-21s teammate Alfie Dorrington has also been included in a few of Postecoglou’s matchday squads this season as the Australian continues to demonstrate that he is willing to give the youth a chance. With this in mind, one player who will perhaps be feeling overlooked and should be next in line for a first-team promotion is 19-year-old Jude Soonsup-Bell.

While plenty of the plaudits have been reserved for Donley, Dorrington and striker Will Lankshear, Soonsup-Bell’s contributions have been flying under the radar ever so slightly among Spurs supporters, with the forward boasting more goals than Donley in the Premier League Two this season with six.

Soonsup-Bell underlined his credentials as a key player once again during the Under-21s’ most recent outing.

Having been without a match for almost a month after the Premier League Two clash with Manchester United Under-21s was postponed last weekend, Wayne Burnett’s side returned to action in style with a 2-1 win away at Sunderland Under-21s in the Premier League Cup on Monday 11 December.

Soonsup-Bell opened the scoring for the visitors with just five minutes on the clock, working his way into the box before striking home fiercely from a tight angle.

Rio Kyerematen doubled Spurs’ lead just a minute later and while Sunderland did gain some control in the game from this point onward, they could only manage a stoppage-time consolation at the end of the second half, as Spurs maintained their impressive 100 per cent win rate against Under-21 opposition this season.

This goalscoring performance will serve as a reminder to the coaching staff at Hotspur Way that Soonsup-Bell is a name that should be brought up during discussions regarding the first-team picture.

In other Tottenham news, one Spurs player shone during the win over Newcastle, with Graham Roberts describing his display as “amazing.”
