Tottenham Under-21 gem Jude Soonsup-Bell could replace Timo Werner after what he did
Timo Werner must be worried about holding down his position in the Tottenham team, with Jude Soonsup-Bell continuing to impress at youth level.
Like the RB Leipzig loanee, Soonsup-Bell is naturally a striker but can deputise on the left flank, though most of his performances have come on the opposite wing this season.
The 20-year-old has notched 10 goals and five assists in 17 Premier League 2 matches so far, with three more goal contributions coming in the EFL Trophy during a 5-0 win over Colchester United.
Soonsup-Bell only arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January 2023 on a contract until June 2025, joining from Chelsea after fending off multiple teams with an interest in the young forward. [BBC Sport]
And despite only making one senior appearance at Stamford Bridge before making the switch, Ange Postecoglou may deem him ready for a step up to the first team, especially after his recent display.
Having opened the scoring during a 5-1 victory over Wolves on Monday 15 April, controlling his strike perfectly to slice an effort into James Storer’s far corner.
He now has a total of 14 goals and six assists in 27 appearances for Tottenham U21s and should be in contention for a senior debut sooner rather than later.
Jude Soonsup-Bell could replace Timo Werner for Tottenham
Despite notching two goals and three assists since signing on loan from Leipzig in January, there is uncertainty over whether Spurs will trigger a £14.6million clause to make the move permanent.
Many have called for the German to be sent back to his parent club at the end of the season, and Postecoglou could already have a replacement for him ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
With a 39 per cent shot accuracy in the Premier League this season, as per FotMob, Werner’s failure to be clinical has caused a lot of frustration, which could see Soonsup-Bell given an opportunity instead.
