Tottenham Under-21 ace Rio Kyerematen could solve Spurs problem after what he did on Monday

Destiny Udogie might soon be looking over his shoulder at Tottenham after Rio Kyerematen’s performance for Spurs’ Under-21s on Monday (15 April).

Udogie has been a revelation during his debut season in the Premier League.

The Italy international has adapted well to Ange Postecoglou’s demands, excelling as an inverted left-back in the Australian’s system.

One key problem for Postecoglou has been the lack of depth in that area of the pitch, with Ben Davies not quite able to play in the same way that Udogie does.

However, based on the Tottenham Under-21s’ most recent victory, it appears that Postecoglou could have a long-term solution to this problem.

Tottenham Under-21 ace Rio Kyerematen following in Destiny Udogie’s footsteps

Spurs moved back to the top of the Premier League 2 with a 5-1 victory over Wolves’ Under-21s at the Lamex Stadium on Monday night.

They now need just four points from their remaining three matches to clinch top spot ahead of West Ham’s Under-21s, who have played two games more than Spurs.

It was a resounding performance from Wayne Burnett’s side, with Jude Soonsup-Bell, Will Lankshear and Tyrell Ashcroft all getting themselves on the scoresheet, while Yago Santiago forced an own goal.

While the attacking talent on display was incredibly impressive, it was Kyerematen who stood out most, with the midfielder shining while playing in an unfamiliar inverted left-back role, similar to the role Udogie plays for Spurs’ first-team.

The 18-year-old grabbed a goal and an assist in what was his first outing this season at left-back, sending a cross toward Soonsup-Bell who volleyed home after 20 minutes before his lofted ball into the box found the top left-hand corner in the 65th minute.

Having recently been spotted in first-team training, Postecoglou might be keen to keep a closer eye on Kyerematen after his impressive display in a position which so few players in the first-team can play.
