Tottenham Under-21 ace Luca Gunter impresses Son Heung-min in first-team training footage
Tottenham have a host of very talented young goalkeepers learning their trade at Hotspur Way at the moment, with Luca Gunter the latest Under-21 star to join first-team training.
Following Hugo Lloris’ departure from Spurs following more than a decade with the club, the future between the sticks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looked uncertain.
However, this was quickly addressed in the summer with Guglielmo Vicario brought in from Serie A side Genoa for an initial fee of £17.2million (Sky Sports News, 27 June 2023).
Vicario has made an impressive start to life in North London and he is still only 27 years old which means he is likely to be Ange Postecoglou’s long-term number one.
And there is no shortage of talented shot-stoppers behind the Italy international.
Josh Keeley has recently joined up with Barnet on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign after some impressive performances for the Under-21s this season, with Tottenham News exclusively revealing that he is continuing to train at Hotspur Way part-time.
And now his Spurs teammate Gunter is impressing in his own right after the 18-year-old was spotted in first-team training.
Luca Gunter is one for the future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
In footage posted to Spurs’ official X account on Wednesday (6 March), the Tottenham stars can be seen training ahead of their clash with Aston Villa on Sunday 10 March.
One player who supporters might not have recognised is Gunter, who lined up between the sticks and attempted to stop shots from some of the biggest names at Hotspur Way.
Son Heung-min was one player he did manage to keep out, with the closing seconds of the footage showing the South Korea international congratulating Gunter after the young goalkeeper had denied the 31-year-old with a strong save in a one-on-one scenario.
Catching the eye of his club captain will certainly do Gunter’s chances of progressing through the ranks at Tottenham no harm.

Gunter has made four appearances in the Premier League 2 this season and will hope to feature more regularly between now and May as he looks to catch Postecoglou’s eye.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs face an anxious wait with one 94 per cent ace nowhere to be seen in training.
