Tottenham Under-21 ace Brooklyn Lyons-Foster swaps North London for Finland
Tottenham could be made to regret their decision to let Under-21 defender Brooklyn Lyons-Foster leave the club.
There has been a lot of change in North London this season, both at the academy and first-team level as Ange Postecoglou continues to make his mark at Hotspur Way.
Several big names left in January, with Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris and Ivan Perisic all permanently moving on from Tottenham in search of pastures anew.
Among the Under-21s and Under-18s, a number of talents are beginning to emerge, while the likes of Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips have been sent on high-profile loans to Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle.
It is hard to disagree with many of the decisions the club have made this season with their first-team, Under-21s and Under-18s all going well, but they could look back on their most recent personnel change with a sense of regret.
Tottenham announced via their official website on Wednesday 14 January that 23-year-old Lyons-Foster has left the club to join Finnish side HJK Helsinki.
Lyons-Foster was never given a fair chance at Tottenham
Some Spurs supporters would likely have been caught off guard by this announcement.
Lyons-Foster has been a key player for the Under-21s this season, starting in all 11 of their Premier League 2 matches with Wayne Burnett’s side top of the division while boasting a 100 per cent record in the competition.
Nonetheless, he has been allowed to leave the club, and senior figures at Spurs will hope they don’t live to regret that choice.
The versatile defender rose through the ranks at Hotspur Way and became a key figure of the club’s Development Squad, captaining the Under-21s on multiple occasions across his 99 appearances at that level.
However, he only ever made it as far as the bench for the first team, named as a substitute in two competitive first-team matches throughout the 2021/22 campaign.
He was likely frustrated with his lack of progress in North London and keen to move on in an attempt to kickstart his career, which is an understandable decision.
However, what isn’t understandable is why Spurs never offered him a fair opportunity in the first-team setup after so much success among the youth teams.

Whatever the reasons may be, the decision has now been made, and Spurs will hope it is a decision which doesn’t come back to haunt them after the likes of Marcus Edwards and Noni Madueke have left the club in recent years and gone on to showcase their quality elsewhere in European football.
In other Tottenham news, a concern has emerged for Spurs with one 100 per cent defender nowhere to be seen in first-team training on Wednesday.
