Tottenham Under-18 defender Leo Black shows star potential after what he did on Wednesday
Tottenham Under-18 right-back Leo Black has wasted little time making an impact on the international stage.
Black has enjoyed a breakthrough season in North London.
Having started just three Under-18 Premier League South matches during the 2022/23 campaign, Black has become a main feature in Stuart Lewis’ side during the 2023/24 season.
The 18-year-old has started 17 games in the league, excelling in his role as an inverted right-back, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
It has been a big couple of weeks for Black with the youngster signing his first professional deal with Tottenham, before earning his first international call-up as he was selected to represent England Under-18s.
And he wasted little time making his name on the international stage as England’s Under-18s took on Czech Republic’s Under-18s in a tournament match in Spain.
Leo Black is one for Ange Postecoglou to keep an eye on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Not only was Black included in the matchday squad, but the defender was thrown straight in at the deep end as he was handed his first international start.
Black completed the full 90 minutes as he helped his teammates to a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic, with goals coming from Chelsea’s George Tyrique and Southampton’s Samuel Amo-Ameyaw.
It is an incredible way for Black to begin his international career, and he will now be looking to make a further impact when England’s Under-18s take on Germany’s Under-18s (22 March) and Netherlands’ Under-18s (25 March) in the same tournament.
Black will be full of confidence and if he can continue with this positive form for England he could return to North London an even further-improved player.

He will be looking to break through into the Tottenham Under-21s setup from next season, and if he is successful in doing that, Ange Postecoglou might begin to take more notice of the star in the making.
In other Tottenham news, one pre-agreed Spurs signing is set for a fresh loan move during the 2024/25 season.
