Tottenham to have upper-hand in bid to sign Blackburn ace Adam Wharton as transfer news emerges

Tottenham want to sign Blackburn Rovers gem Adam Wharton in the January transfer window and may have an advantage over the rest of the competition.

A report emerged on Tuesday (90min, 28 November) that Spurs have joined the race to sign the Championship midfielder and are ready to compete with the likes of Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, Brighton and Newcastle for his signature.

Ange Postecoglou and the club have made it a priority to sign younger players recently, with the likes of Alejo Veliz and Luka Vuskovic already joining.

But after the club signed young defender Ashley Phillips in the summer from Blackburn, they may already have an advantage in the race for Wharton.

90min suggest that Spurs and Rovers are on good terms after the deal, and that could help with getting a deal over the line ahead of the competition when there is such fierce competition from some top teams.

These relationships are incredibly important in the transfer market, and the fact that Postecoglou has shown a willingness in the past to use young players could easily convince Wharton to come to north London ahead of other places.

Players like Alfie Devine can do the job too, potentially. But while he’s out on loan Wharton’s arrival in January could be the ideal solution to start building for the future too.

Building relationships between clubs is important and could help in the long run, and exploiting that relationship to sign yet another talented young player can only be a good thing for the club.

If Postecoglou wants him to be part of the squad too, then it would be silly not to try and bring him in ahead of other top teams rather than sitting and wondering what if when he explodes in the future.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs already have the perfect defensive replacement who could save them millions.
