Tottenham offer contract to one of the ‘best’ young players in England
Tottenham have some very exciting young players emerging at Hotspur Way.
Spurs’ first-team are struggling at the moment, with Ange Postecoglou under huge pressure after the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday [4 December].
However, when it comes to the youth players in North London, things are looking much more promising, with a contract offer having recently been made to one of the best young defenders in the country.
And Spurs have now added to that, by offering a contract to one of the best young players in the country, not just in his position, but overall.
As reported via Lilywhite Rose on X [7 December], Lucá Williams-Barnett has been offered a two-year scholarship to join Spurs’ Under-18s next season.
Williams-Barnett has already been part of multiple first-team squads this season and “is arguably the best player for his age across the country”.
Therefore, supporters will no doubt be excited to learn that Spurs are looking to tie him down.
Lucá Williams-Barnett to sign scholarship deal with Tottenham?
Williams-Barnett, who is still 16 years old, is classed as a schoolboy player and has been playing a year up with the Under-18s this season.
The talented young forward has been making the Under-18 Premier League look easy, and has already been compared with Mikey Moore.
As a result, Spurs will no doubt want to keep hold of him and offering him a scholarship deal early could prove to be a stroke of genius. However, there is of course no guarantee that he will sign that deal, with plenty of other clubs bound to be sniffing around.
Therefore, Spurs will be holding their breath as they await his decision. The club will hope that Postecoglou’s decision to hand Williams-Barnett first-team opportunities this season acts in their favour.
That kind of faith demonstrates to the youngster that there is a pathway for him in North London, and he might be keen to explore that path.
However, only time will tell what the young forward decides to do, but Spurs can at least relax knowing that they have done all they can for now.
