Tottenham: Damola Ajayi should be next in line for first-team after what he did for Under-21s on Sunday
Damola Ajayi is continuing to prove that he could soon be ready to make the step up at Tottenham.
It has been a breakthrough season for Ajayi at Hotspur Way.
Following his impressive run of form, the forward recently penned his first professional deal with Tottenham, and it looks as if that contract decision has only inspired him to continue improving.
Ajayi has featured predominantly for Spurs’ Under-18s this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in his 11 Under-18 Premier League South appearances.
However, he has also been called up to represent the Under-21s multiple times throughout the current campaign, and when he has featured, he has stepped up.
The 18-year-old has made four Premier League 2 appearances across the 2023/24 campaign, scoring three goals and providing three assists, with his most recent strike coming this past Sunday (17 March) as Tottenham Under-21s beat Middlesbrough Under-21s 2-1 away from home.
With the hosts having equalised after Will Lankshear’s opener in the third minute, Ajayi stepped off the bench to score a wonderful late winner and tighten Spurs’ grip on top spot in the Premier League 2.
Damola Ajayi could soon feature in a matchday squad for Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Not only is Ajayi being called up to feature for Spurs’ Under-21s, but he is also contributing at that level.
Last season Ajayi made six Premier League 2 appearances and failed to find the back of the net or provide an assist, which further demonstrates the strides forward he has made this season.
Ajayi will likely become a permanent feature of the Under-21s next season, and this will offer him more opportunities to show Ange Postecoglou what he is capable of.

If he can build on his form this season during the 2024/25 campaign, it is not too far-fetched to imagine that the youngster could soon be called up by Postecoglou.
Just like Jamie Donley has done this season, Ajayi will be keen to follow in his teammates’s footsteps and breakthrough to the first team next year, and he is certainly capable of doing just that.
