Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou must hand opportunity to record-breaker Will Lankshear
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou must hand Under-21 ace Will Lankshear his first senior minutes for the club after the striker’s record-breaking performance on Saturday (24 February).
Spurs’ Under-21s recorded one of their most emphatic wins of an incredibly impressive season with a 6-0 victory against Fleetwood Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Stuart Lewis’ side haven’t been at their best in recent weeks, losing against Under-21 opposition for the first time this season when they were beaten 3-0 by Peterborough United Under-21s on Saturday 3 February.
They followed this up with a 1-1 draw against West Ham United Under-21s in the Premier League 2 on Saturday 17 February, the first time they have failed to win a match in that particular competition this season.
Nonetheless, they got back to winning ways in style as they advanced to the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup in front of just over two thousand supporters in N17.
Those who were in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were treated to some wonderful football as Dane Scarlett opened the scoring, which was rounded off by Nile John and Yago Santiago after a first-half hattrick from Lankshear.
Jamie Donley, who has broken into the Spurs first-team this season, turned on the style as he grabbed four assists, but it was Lankshear’s display that would have inspired the most chatter among the Spurs supporters piling onto the trains leaving from White Hart Lane station at full-time.
Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou must turn to Will Lankshear
Lankshear scored the first of his three goals on Saturday in the 28th minute, and by the 39th minute, he had his third.
The 11-minute hattrick was the quickest treble to be scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since the venue was opened in 2019, an impressive feat considering the quality of forwards who have taken to the pitch in North London.
Lankshear now has 18 goals this season in all competitions for Spurs, and Postecoglou must act fast.

With his 19th birthday just around the corner, the Englishman is yet to make a competitive appearance for his boyhood club, and if he isn’t offered any opportunities off the back of this incredible form, he might start to consider his options.
Postecoglou needs to prove to the striker that there is a future for him at Hotspur Way and that his form has been recognised, and he can start by offering Lankshear a place in the matchday squad against Crystal Palace on Saturday 3 March, which would be a just reward for the youngster after his record-breaking day.
