Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou would have been delighted after what happened in England U19s clash

It has been a positive international break for the young talent at Tottenham, and that pattern continued in the England Under-19s’ most recent clash.

After the way Spurs’ youngsters have performed over the past week, it appears that Ange Postecoglou will have his pick of young talent in North London.

Leo Black made an impact for England’s Under-18s during his first international call-up, while there was a hattrick for Dane Scarlett for England’s Under-20s on Friday (22 March).

Elsewhere, Spurs players dominated the England Under-19s lineup on Thursday (21 March) during their 1-1 draw with Morrocco’s Under-19s, and that was the case once again on Sunday (24 March) as the Young Lions took on the USA’s Under-19s.

Despite the match ending in a 3-2 defeat for England, Postecoglou would have been delighted by the number of Tottenham players on display.

While there weren’t as many Tottenham players involved from the start this time around, all five of the club’s representatives in the matchday squad did play some part.

Jamie Donley once again captained the side and completed 90 minutes, while Alfie Dorrington, Tyrese Hall and Will Lankshear all featured from the bench.

But what Postecoglou would have been most delighted by was George Abbott’s contributions.

Abbott was a substitute in England’s draw with Morrocco but was this time selected from the start and completed 90 minutes alongside Donley.

It marked a fantastic milestone for Abbott who had not previously represented England at Under-19 level before the current international break, and the 18-year-old will now be keen to kick on back in North London.

After what Postecoglou has seen from the club’s academy hopefuls over the past week or so, it surely won’t be long until loan moves or first-team promotions are arranged for some of these talents.
