Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou has room to be excited after what Josh Keeley did on Friday

Josh Keeley is highly regarded at Tottenham and in his most recent outing, he demonstrated that he could become the perfect goalkeeper for Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have several exciting goalkeepers on their books.

Guglielmo Vicario is of course the obvious standout, with the 27-year-old cementing himself as Postecoglou’s number one after an impressive debut season in England.

Luca Gunter recently caught Son Heung-min’s eye in first-team training, while Keeley, who is on loan with National League side Barnet, is highly thought of in North London.

While Vicario seems to have locked down the position as his own for the foreseeable future, Fraser Forster isn’t getting any younger, and Postecoglou might soon need a reliable backup option.

And instead of dipping into the market, Spurs might already have exactly what they need right under their noses.

Josh Keeley could fit perfectly into Ange Postecoglou’s team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

As exclusively revealed by Tottenham News earlier this year, although Keeley was sent on loan to Barnet, he continues to train part-time at Hotspur Way, demonstarting just how highly rated he is in N17.

And with his most recent display for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21s, he proved why Postecoglou has reason to be excited about the goalkeeper’s development.

Keeley started between the sticks as Ireland beat San Marino’s Under-21s 7-0 on Friday (22 March) in their Under-21 European qualifier.

The clean sheet is of course a welcome boost, but in truth, it was mostly down to the outfield players who prevented San Marino from registering a single shot, with two high claims the only goalkeeping work Keeley had to do.

What would have caught Postecoglou’s eye is the 20-year-old’s work with the ball at his feet.

As per Sofascore, Keeley completed an impressive 97 per cent of his passes, with six of his seven long balls forward accurate.

Postecoglou is a fan of a ball-playing goalkeeper, and Keeley certainly proved that is something he can become.

Tottenham Manager Ange Postecoglou
Archie Gray could feature frequently under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham this season

He is currently the number-one choice at Barnet, and when he returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it will be interesting to see what the club have planned next for the youngster.

In other Tottenham news, one fringe player at Spurs sent a message to Postecoglou with his performance while on international duty.
