Tottenham academy ace Sam Archer sends ‘Excellent’ message to Ange Postecoglou
Ange Postecoglou has yet another promising young Tottenham goalkeeper on his hands in the form of Sam Archer.
It has been a breakthrough season for the likes of Josh Keeley and Luca Gunter in North London.
Both of Spurs’ Under-21 goalkeepers have shown their quality at different times, and now it appears that Archer, the club’s Under-18 shot-stopper, might also be a talent worth keeping an eye on.
Archer played a big part on Saturday (4 May) as Tottenham’s Under-18s beat Arsenal’s Under-18s 3-2 in a dramatic North London derby.
After last week’s pain for the first team, Stuart Lewis’ side got some much-needed revenge at youth level.
Callum Olusesi opened the scoring after just 22 seconds, but the Gunners turned the match around to lead 2-1 during the second half at Hotspur Way.
However, an 86th-minute equaliser from Damola Ajayi, before a stoppage-time winner via Han Willhoft-King, meant the home side secured all three points and an Under-18 Premier League double over their fiercest rivals.
And Archer played a big part in Tottenham securing the win over Arsenal.

With Arsenal awarded a penalty kick just before the hour mark, Archer stepped up to deny Michal Rosiak with an “excellent” save, before getting down low to turn a header away from the resulting corner (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 4 May).
He couldn’t do much about a second penalty kick or Rosiak’s 20-yard strike which took a deflection past the 17-year-old, but after Spurs had regained the lead, Archer was on hand once again.
In the dying moments of the match, the goalkeeper remained switched on to make a couple of smart saves as Arsenal pushed for a very late equaliser.
With Archer yet to celebrate his 18th birthday it is fair to say that he still has a lot of time ahead of him, but after what he did against Arsenal, the early signs are certainly promising.
