Rio Kyerematen one step closer to Tottenham debut as announcement made
Rio Kyerematen has been nominated for the Premier League 2’s Player of the Month award for February.
First-team opportunities are going to be limited at best for Tottenham’s young talent given their current predicament, but the new campaign will present a huge opportunity for several of them to make their mark, regardless of division.
And towards the top of the list of players who could make the step up is Kyerematen, who has recently been nominated for the Premier League 2’s Player of the Month award for his performances throughout February.
Tottenham announced his nomination via their official academy X account, and it may not be long until his name starts to appear among the senior squad.
How did Rio Kyerematen fare in February?
Kyerematen has been a consistent performer for Tottenham’s youth sides, but has yet to be rewarded for his form with a senior appearance.
So far this season, the 20-year-old has eight goals and four assists in 16 appearances for the Under-21s, with five of those goal involvements coming in February.
The forward scored two and registered two assists in a 4-0 win over Birmingham, before also getting on the score sheet in a 4-1 win over Norwich.
Kyerematen created three chances against Birmingham and one against Norwich, but it was his all-round game that caught the eye.
He was named on the bench for Tottenham’s latest defeat against Crystal Palace, with a debut seemingly not too far away after his displays at youth level.
Kyerematen’s standout attributes that make him perfect for Tottenham
As mentioned above, it’s not just his goals and assists that have garnered him attention.
His attacking impetus is clear, as evidenced by his 44.4 per cent completion rate on attempted crosses this season.
Added to that, his 18 chances created, 10 successful dribbles, and seven goals from 12 shots on target showcase the impact he is able to have in the final third.
That has been lacking for Igor Tudor’s side, who are still staring down the barrel of relegation ahead of the final nine games of the Premier League season.
The senior players haven’t exactly moved mountains over the last 12 months, and the injection of youth could prove to be what is needed to inject some positivity.
And based on his displays this season, Kyerematen would achieve that.
