Postecoglou ‘could gamble it all’ at Tottenham as image emerges from Hotspur Way

Ange Postecoglou’s job could be riding on Tottenham’s success in the Europa League.

Postecoglou has come under plenty of criticism this season with the Europa League the only thing left to play for in north London this season.

Therefore, with the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday (10 April), the pressure is on the boss to make the right team selection.

Postecoglou could make bold decision

Tottenham come into this game having got a win on the board against Southampton in Premier League action on Sunday (6 April).

The Lilywhites relegated the Saints with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel.

However, Postecoglou started players such as Son Heung-min and James Maddison, with some surely feeling that resting the bigger names could have been beneficial ahead of an important game.

It seems as though the manager could be prepared to gamble it all ahead of the first leg of the quarter-final, which takes place at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A picture of youngster Tye Hall training with the first team was shared on X (9 April) by Lilywhite Rose, suggesting he may be under consideration for the game.

The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with Spurs back in November but is yet to get his chance in the first-team squad.

Postecoglou decision could be worth it

It’s unlikely that Postecoglou would put a 17-year-old straight in the squad for such a big game, although we have seen some questionable choices from the boss throughout the season so far.

Having Hall as an option to bring off the bench could be a risk that pays off for the boss, though, especially if he finds his side in a position that requires a change being made but with little idea of what is to be done.

The central midfielder has scored one goal and provided one assist at youth level so far this season, although the fact he received a professional contract and then an invitation to step up to training with the first team suggests those at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are impressed.

For too much of the campaign, Spurs have looked like a side lost for ideas and with little ability to change things up when necessary.

Furthermore, with this being a home tie, if the players aren’t up to the standards they need to be at they would surely feel the pressure closing in from the full stadium of supporters around them.

With this in mind, having the option to bring on someone who could play with a bit more freedom and less of the stress of underperforming could be the breath of fresh air that Spurs need.

He was called up for a reason, and if Postecoglou turned to him, it would not be the strangest thing he has done this term.
