Oliver Boast and the next Son – Tottenham youngsters set for breakthrough season

Tottenham are overflowing with young talents who could take over next season.

Daniel Levy has been keen to put young talent at the forefront of Spurs’ policy in recent years.

This has seen several teenagers climb the ranks and solidify their place in the first team, the most recent being academy starlet Mikey Moore, who lifted silverware during his debut campaign.

But this is only expected to grow now that Thomas Frank is at the helm. The Dane is known for developing youngsters and giving them opportunities within the senior team.

As a result, three young players in particular could break through in the coming months.

Oliver Boast – striker

Tottenham recently confirmed that Oliver Boast had joined their academy from Leeds United, and he is already someone fans should be excited about.

At 16, Boast was already a regular for Leeds’ Under-18s last season despite still being a schoolboy. He also made his debut for the Whites’ Under-21s during the same period.

Climbing the ranks at such a young age not only indicates his talent but also that he could do the same at Tottenham.

With Richarlison heading towards a departure, the Lilywhites could require another option up front. As a result, it would not be surprising if Frank hands Boast his first-team debut next season.

Tynan Thompson – winger

Tynan Thompson made it clear to Frank just how special he is during his cameo against Wycombe at Hotspur Way (26 July).

The winger was substituted on when Spurs were trailing by one goal and made an instant impact. The Under-18 forward orchestrated a beautiful one-two with Pape Matar Sarr to assist the midfielder’s second goal.

But his involvement was far greater than the goals scored. Minutes later, he sent the perfect ball in for Son Heung-min, who was unable to convert the chance.

While the pre-season match ended in a draw, it was Thompson who made the difference. His performance demonstrated not only that he could play beside the senior team, but he could outshine them on the pitch.

With Son edging towards a departure this summer, it would not be surprising to see Thompson integrated into the first team next season.

Wilson Odobert – winger

Wilson Odobert joined Spurs last August and has already made a lasting impact on the team. However, there is every chance that his breakout comes next season.

The game against Wycombe revealed several things about what Frank wants to do next season, including his plans for Odobert.

The Frenchman’s partnership with Pedro Porro on the right flank was one of the highlights of the match. The two displayed a synergy which could be a source of excitement for fans in the coming months.

Porro was given the freedom to step into more of an attacking role, which would see Odobert drop a little deeper. However, the two frequently interchanged, with the winger latching onto several chances created by the fullback.

The positives from this relationship could see Odobert start more frequently for Spurs next season and even displace Brennan Johnson on the right-hand side.
