Jamie Donley recall: Tottenham deadline emerges after Richie Wellens controversy

Tottenham will not recall Jamie Donley from his loan at Leyton Orient, according to Lilywhite Rose.

The academy-focused Spurs outlet reported via X (3 February) that the deadline to cut short Donley’s stint at the League One club has already passed.

There have been calls for the North London giants to bring the 20-year-old, as well as Josh Keeley, back from Leyton after their manager Richie Wellens aimed a dig at Ange Postecoglou after The O’s lost 1-0 against Stockport County on Saturday, 1 February.

Jamie Donley to continue development away from Tottenham

Tottenham sent Donley out on loan to Leyton to help him gain first-team experience after he made four senior appearances for them last season.

The attacker has had a fruitful time with The O’s so far, bagging five goals and as many assists in 21 League One appearances so far.

It is understandable why some may want the North London outfit to bring Donley back as Postecoglou is currently without Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert.

While the youngster may be able to help in the short term, his development is likely to hit a snag once the aforementioned players return to action.

Therefore, it does not make sense for Spurs to cut short the Northern Ireland-born player’s stint with Leyton at this stage.

Daniel Levy, though, could consider bringing in another attacking player on loan to help Postecoglou navigate through the ongoing injury crisis in the squad.

Tottenham have notably been credited with an interest in signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday (3 February) evening [Daily Mail].
