Jamie Donley makes point to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou as ‘incredible’ footage emerges
Jamie Donley’s name has been mentioned a lot recently, and the Tottenham Under-21s forward has sent another telling message to Ange Postecoglou before the season ends.
The 19-year-old played a major role as the young Spurs side advanced to the Premier League 2 play-off semi-final by beating Liverpool on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw on Sunday 12 May.
Lewis Koumas opened the scoring before Donley and Tyrese Hall’s brace saw the U21s take a 3-1 lead, though an Alfie Dorrington own goal and James Norris goal forced the game to extra time.
Donley, alongside his teammates, showed the first-team manager exactly what he is capable of as he levelled the scores at 1-1 with an “incredible” lob from the best part of 40 yards. [Tottenham Hotspur]
The goal marked the attacking midfielder’s eighth of the season, having also notched 17 appearances in all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.
And having amassed just three minutes of senior football over three appearances this season, Postecoglou may not be able to ignore the youngster any longer.
Will Ange Postecoglou play Jamie Donley in Tottenham v Manchester City?
Donley has certainly earned his spot in the first team and could offer an alternative for Postecoglou as Spurs face Manchester City on Tuesday 14 May.
The likes of Will Lankshear, Yago Santiago, Alfie Dorrington and Rio Kyerematen have all impressed this season and must be rewarded by the first-team manager, whether that be in the final two matches of the season or during pre-season.
Of course, James Maddison is the driving creative force in the senior team and Postecoglou would be unlikely to swap him out for a youngster such as Donley.
However, the England international has dropped in form recently, with some suggesting that he should not be one of the first names on the teamsheet. This could offer Donley the perfect opportunity.
While it is unlikely that his outstanding performance against Liverpool will earn him any minutes against Man City, the final match against Sheffield United could see the 19-year-old feature for the Lilywhites.
