Ange Postecoglou must reward Tottenham U21 ace Alfie Dorrington after what he did on Friday
Alfie Dorrington must be in Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans at Tottenham next season.
Spurs’ Under-21s secured top spot in Premier League 2 with a game to spare following their 2-0 victory against Fulham at Motspur Park on Friday (26 April).
It ensures that the North London side will be handed a favourable draw when the top 16 teams in Premier League 2 split off into a play-off phase to determine the overall winners of the competition.
It has been a sensational campaign for Wayne Burnett’s side, and their impressive win away against the Cottagers was a reflection of how they have played throughout much of the season.
Will Lankshear stole the headlines, scoring the brace which secured all three points for Spurs and saw him move outright top of the Premier League 2 scoring charts, with the striker having now found the back of the net 18 times in the competition this season.
Under-18 ace Maeson King also stepped up on what was his Under-21 debut, but it was Dorrington who would have really caught Postecoglou’s eye.
Alfie Dorrington should be handed a first-team role at Tottenham by Ange Postecoglou
Returning to the team after missing the last two matches due to injury, Dorrington was key in helping Spurs keep their first clean sheet since February.
As per the Tottenham Hotspur Official Website (26 April), the 19-year-old was “influential” on Friday, hardly missing a step despite having not played for almost three weeks.
As well as his superb defensive display, he could have had an assist when Lankshear slid home his low cross during the first half, but the striker was called offside.
Considering the fact that conceding goals has been the biggest issue for Postecoglou this season, Dorrington is certainly a player within the academy the Australian should be taking a closer look at.

The centre-back has already been included in several Premier League squads this season, and having recently turned 19, he might be ready to make the setup up next year.
In other Tottenham news, the club could be set to cash in on one player in an attempt to balance the books.
