Ange Postecoglou must promote Nile John after what Tottenham Under-21 star did on Sunday

Ange Postecoglou must ensure he takes a closer look at Tottenham Under-21 midfielder Nile John during pre-season.

Spurs’ Under-21s are heading to the Premier League 2 play-off final.

Following a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Fulham’s Under-21s in the Premier League Cup final on Thursday (16 May), Wayne Burnett’s side have quickly put that disappointment behind them.

The North London outfit were faced with a tough task on Sunday (19 May) as they welcomed Chelsea’s Under-21s to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Premier League 2 play-off semi-final.

Will Lankshear, who has been on fire all season, put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute.

And it looked as if that goal might have been enough until Deivid Washington stepped up and equalised for Chelsea in the 76th minute.

However, with extra time looming, Spurs once again took the lead through John as he found the net from distance deep into stoppage time.

And after John’s heroics on Sunday, it is time for Postecoglou to take a closer look at the Englishman.

Nile John deserves an opportunity to prove himself to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Spurs’ Under-21s are more than deserving of a place in the Premier League 2 play-off final.

They have been outstanding all season, with John a big part of the team’s success.

The 21-year-old has featured prominently, playing in various positions across the pitch.

And his versatility could prove particularly useful for Postecoglou, with his goal on Sunday acting as a last-gasp message to the Australian to take a closer look at him.

John will turn 22 next season with his Spurs deal set to expire in June 2025.

As a result, now is the time for Postecoglou to offer John some first-team opportunities and make a decision on the Under-21 hero.
