Werner transfer shock: Napoli await Tottenham green light after Arsenal clash
Tottenham ace Timo Werner has emerged as an option to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at Napoli, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Sky Italia journalist reported via his website on Monday (13 January) that Napoli have had “exploratory contacts” for Werner, who is on loan at Spurs from RB Leipzig and has also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt in recent days.
Antonio Conte’s side, though, are waiting until after the North London derby against Arsenal on Wednesday (15 January) to “unblock” the potential transfer deal.
Ange Postecoglou is without several players for the trip to the Emirates Stadium and could only give the green light for Werner’s exit after that.
Timo Werner surely done at Tottenham as Randal Kolo Muani eyed
Werner’s initial six-month loan stint with Spurs last season was not exciting by any means, but he did just enough to earn himself another chance in North London.
However, the Germany international’s performances this season have left much to be desired as he is yet to score in the Premier League despite making 17 appearances.
That is why Postecoglou’s side have been forced to enter the market for a new forward this January transfer window, with Randal Kolo Muani among those eyed.
Tottenham are actively pursuing a deal to sign the France international from Paris-Saint Germain [The Athletic] and Werner will surely be done at the club if that transfer comes to fruition.

Should Napoli decide to step up their interest in Werner, it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides to do.
Since Spurs have an option to make the 28-year-old’s move permanent, they could buy him before selling him to Napoli themselves or just cut-short his loan stint and allow Leipzig to do business with the Serie A outfit.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have joined the race to sign a PSG star, and it is not Kolo Muani.
