Tottenham haven’t always got their recruitment policy right over the years, but they were certainly spot on with the signature of James Maddison.

The midfield star joined from relegated Leicester City in the summer transfer window, and has hit the ground running immediately at his new club.

The England international boasts two goals and two assists from his first four Premier League matches in white, with both of his assists coming in the opening day draw against Brentford.

He found the back of the net meanwhile in the victories against Bournemouth and Burnley, and will be hoping to do the same when his club host Sheffield United on Saturday (16 September).

Maddison’s early form has unsurprisingly garnered attention, with former Premier League ace Paul Robinson telling Tottenham News (12 September): “He does look like he could potentially be the signing of the season. Definitely the best player that Spurs have signed this summer.”

That is certainly the case, and is backed up by Maddison’s 8.07 SofaScore rating, which places him top of the list for Tottenham players this season.

A star player in several aspects, the midfielder has been both creative and defensively astute following his move from the Foxes.

As per the official Premier League website, the 26-year-old has made 12 accurate long balls and three through balls this season, creating two big chances along the way.

Defensively, he has made three tackles and three interceptions, as well as making 12 recoveries, not statistics that Sheffield United midfielders will want to see before their clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
